The Meaning
Every experience in our lives leaves a mark on our existence. Those marks will stay forever, shaping us who we are today.
This painting was created in distinct layers, using a variety of techniques at each stage: some applied with brushes, others with a palette knife, a sponge, or even by hand. Woven into these layers are "scars" that represent the deep impressions left on our lives by past experiences.
Each layer was allowed to dry completely before the next was added, making these marks permanent and impossible to hide under further layers of paint.
I call this painting “Today is a sum of yesterdays” because the person we are today is the culmination of every experience we have lived in the past.
